International Women's Day 2019

Today is International Women's Day which salutes women all over the world. It's a day we unite to celebrate achievements and to call for gender equality. Starting in New York in the early 1900's, it's now recognised every year on the 8th March to celebrate strong women. This year's theme is 'Balance For Better'.

We've rounded up just a few of the women that inspire us...

Lady Gaga

Lady Gaga became the first woman in history this year to win a Grammy, an Oscar, a Golden Globe and a BAFTA all in the same year.

Spice Girls

Made up of Victoria Beckham, Geri Halliwell, Emma Bunton, Mel B and Mel C, the Spice Girls took over the 90's and taught us all about girl power and being yourself. Arguably the most successful girl group ever, they've sold over 85 million records.

Oprah

The media mogul and talk show host has taught us all women can be successful with her estimated net worth of $2.7 billion. You go girl.

The Queen

Queen Elizabeth II has been in power of our country for nearly 69 years, becoming the longest reigning British Monarch. It's not just her colour co-ordinated outfits we love.

Beyonce

Queen B has 23 Grammys and has sold over 17 million records as a solo artist. Her music empowers us and women all over the world. Not only is she a singer, songwriter, actress and business woman, she's the founder of the Survivor Foundation charity and campaigned for Michelle Obama's Let's Move initiative.

Michelle Obama

The former first lady encourages and supports young women with her organisation Let Girls Learn. The charity was set up to make sure girls around the world get the education they deserve.

Meryl Streep

Meryl holds the records for the most Academy Award nominations with 21 in total. She's won the award for Best Actress 3 times and is an advocate for the #TimesUp movement.
