Our Favourite Fashion Moments Of 2019

2020 is right around the corner, but before we get excited about all the upcoming trends in the new year, it’s time to look back at what 2019 brought us.

From sizzling red carpet looks to viral fashion trends, there’ve been plenty of iconic moments that we’ve been sharing on the ‘gram this year.

Suffering from FOMO? Don’t worry, we’ve got you. We’ve rounded up our favourite fashion moments of 2019 that we’re thanking the fashion gods for, so keep on scrolling.

Viktor & Rolf’s Meme Collection

Meme culture? Meme couture more like. While memes were dominating the internet on every and all social platforms (and our hearts, obvs), Viktor & Rolf were busy bringing the meme to the runway.

Models sashayed along the catwalk in brightly-coloured tulle gowns with statement quotes embellished on them.

“I’m not shy I just don’t like you”, “sorry I’m late I didn’t want to come” and “no photos please” were just a few of the super relatable phrases splayed on the designer dresses.

Our personal fave? “No”.

We can relate.

Savage X Fenty

Rihanna’s second runway show for her Savage X Fenty lingerie brand was a highly-anticipated event. Last year’s show was a celebration of women - all shapes, sizes, ethnicities and abilities. And of course, this year didn’t disappoint.

Rihanna brought out a troupe of diverse models to show off her line, but the key message wasn’t “buy my lingerie, you can look like this!”

The show was a celebration of women taking control of their appearance, and the social reaction proved that we all felt that message loud and clear.

All hail our queen Ri-Ri.

Katie Holmes in cashmere

In September, Katie Holmes sent the fashion world into disarray.

Papped on the streets of New York in a oh-so-chic, taupe, chunky knit cardigan and matching bra, the fashion community scrambled over each other to bag her exact look. So much so that the items sold out shortly after the images were released.

She wore the cardigan loosely buttoned and on one shoulder, and paired the set with blue jeans and a simple black bag.

We’re feeling cosy vibes just looking at the pictures.

Kendall in Giambattista Valli x H&M

Designer collabs are a big deal, especially when they’re fronted by one of fashion’s most ‘in’ models.

Kendall Jenner proudly strutted her stuff in a bright pink tulle dress at this year’s Cannes Film Festival, creating a huge moment for 2019.

Featuring layers upon layers of edgy tulle and all tied together with a statement belt, this is the Barbie dress many of us dreamt of when we were young, but way hotter.

Not only did Kendall’s shots of the gown get over 5 million likes on Instagram, but the dress sold out within minutes of its release.

Kate Middleton on tour in Pakistan

She’s beauty and she’s grace. The Duchess of Cambridge can do no wrong in our eyes.

Visiting Pakistan as part of a royal tour, Kate pulled out all the stops to impress with her carefully selected wardrobe creations.

The royal wore traditional pieces in bright colours and coordinated each look with sparkling jewellery. Showing her respect to the country by covering up, Kate still managed to let her personality shine through her outfit choices.

We especially love her blue ensemble that she rocked when touching down in Pakistan. The stunning take on a traditional dress and trouser outfit was a nod towards some of Princess Diana’s iconic outfits that she wore on her visits to the country nearly 20 years ago.

If only we looked that amaze stepping off of a plane.

Meghan Markle Poses With Baby Archie

We can’t include one Duchess without the other, and the newest member of the royal family has quickly made her place in the fashion world.

Meghan has become a super influential figure in fashion this year, to the point where it’s become common for the pieces that she steps out in to sell out almost immediately.

Channeling an easy and effortless style, Meghan’s on the top of our watchlists when it comes to wardrobe inspo.

One of our faves is the white, belted, sleeveless trench coat dress that she posed in for her first public family portrait with Prince Harry and baby Archie.

We’re definitely jealous of Meghan living out her best fairy-tale life.

Kim K at the Met Gala

Serving up a major mermaid moment at this year’s Met Gala, Kim Kardashian stole the show with her custom-made Thierry Mugler dress.

Giving off those fresh-out-of-the-sea vibes, Kim’s dress was put together with 500 hand-sewn crystals to give the illusion of water dripping off of her body. The latex creation also included a corset, right on brand for the queen of waist trainers. We do not envy having to get out of that thing!

Ease of access aside, Kim’s dress was one of the most memorable looks of the night and cemented her fashionista status.

What’s more, Kim later revealed that the dress was inspired by her very own daughter - North. Too cute, we can’t cope!

J.Lo Breaks The Internet At Fashion Week

Wearing the same dress that you’ve worn before may be a big no-no to some celebs, but Jennifer Lopez proved some looks are meant to be shown off not once, but twice.

Closing the Versace Spring 2020 runway show, J.Lo came out in a redesigned version of her own iconic green dress which she wore to the 2000 Grammy Awards. Talk about a throwback!

The Versace number featured some noticeable upgrades, showing off a sleeveless body with cutout detailing. The green tropical pattern fit right in with the show’s jungle theme, making the star a perfect fit for the collection.
